As you can tell by this pic from my first year, I have been teaching for quite a while (no worries - I've advanced greatly past the chalkboard)! Hi, my name is Erin Bloomer, and I am thrilled to be a part of the Pleasant Grove team. My family and I relocated here from Louisville, KY, in 2019 as my husband is a softball coach at Duke University. We met at the University of Kentucky (a looong time ago), so we find much irony in this move!
My academic interests are highly varied, so I try to incorporate some of these into AIG at Pleasant Grove. I hold a B.A. in Spanish and International Economics, an M.A. in Elementary Education, and an additional graduate degree in K-12 Computer Education. Please check out the action at https://twitter.com/bloomersteam! Over the past 17 years, I've taught every age from Kindergartners to graduate students, and I've even created a STEAM camp with some of my friends from back home (https://www.instagram.com/theworkshopcamp/).
I believe in creating highly engaging activities for students that push them to think and work in a variety of ways. I think all of those so-called "soft skills" (problem solving, collaboration, communication...) are actually really hardcore, and I try to incorporate them as frequently as possible!
